Now Hiring: Archaeological Crew Chief/Field Director – Full-Time Seasonal (Bismarck, ND)
We’re not just looking for a résumé. We’re looking for a brain. And a good human.
Beaver Creek Archaeology (BCA) is looking for one more smart, capable, and team-minded individual to join us as a full-time seasonal Crew Chief/Field Director based out of Bismarck, ND. If you're experienced, reliable, and know how to work hard without losing your sense of humor, we might just be your people.
This is a boots-on-the-ground position—perfect for someone who can lead fieldwork, solve problems, and keep things running smoothly in the unpredictable world of cultural resource management.
What You’ll Do
• Assist with field surveys and monitor work with purpose and competence
• Hike up to 7–10+ miles per day (yes, really) over uneven terrain
• Help manage crew members and keep the field energy high but focused while making sure they don’t wander off
• Collect and document archaeological data that matters without cutting corners
• Think critically, solve problems, adapt as things shift, and communicate clearly
• Keep the work moving forward (and keep it safe)
What You Get
• Competitive pay based on your experience
• Time-and-a-half overtime (because long days will happen)
• $60/day Subsistence Allotment—every work day you are with us as a seasonal
• Single-occupancy hotel rooms on field assignments (no tents, we promise)
• Company vehicle for fieldwork and project transportation
• A shot at long-term work if it’s a great fit
What We’re Looking For
• Master’s degree in archaeology/anthropology or equivalent
• Completed field school and at least 1 year of archaeological fieldwork
• Experience with site mapping, documentation, and artifact identification
• A solid sense of direction (figuratively and literally)
• Proven leadership in the field (we need Crew Chiefs, not cruise directors)
• Physically capable and mentally present, day in and day out
• Strong communicator, clear thinker, and team collaborator
• A valid driver’s license (and a decent driving record)
Bonus Points For
• Experience in North Dakota or eastern Montana
• GPS and mapping tech skills
• Familiarity with federal/state CRM regulatory stuff
• Previous experience in a similar capacity with a CRM firm or agency
Why BCA?
We’re a tight-knit, hardworking group that values competency, curiosity, and a good sense of humor. We are a slightly sarcastic team that gets things done and supports each other in the field. If you’re someone who wants to do good work, learn more every year, and not just punch a clock, you’ll probably fit right in. If you’re here to check boxes or coast—we’re not the place.
If you want a job where your contributions matter, your teammates have your back, and you won’t be micromanaged—welcome to BCA.
